MIAMI -- A former Miami-Dade police officer awaiting trial on sexual assault charges was charged Monday with trying to hire someone to kill two key witnesses.

Paul Brosky, 40, who has been in Miami-Dade County Jail without bail since Sept. 6, was charged with two counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder.

He already was charged with two counts of armed sexual battery by a law enforcement officer and one count of armed kidnapping stemming from his September arrest.

Police said that on Aug. 30 and again three days later, Brosky detained cars with 17-year-old girls in them, sexually assaulted them and then let them and their male companions go.

Police started a new investigation last week after sources told them Brosky was plotting a murder-for-hire. Investigators taped conversations and discovered writings of Brosky looking for someone to kill two of the victims involved in the sexual assault cases, police said.

Miami-Dade police fired Brosky after his September arrest.
