Roy Rogers

Roy Rogers plays blues guitar steeped in the sounds of the Delta. From Northern California, Rogers is known for his way with a slide and for his collaborations with the late, great John Lee Hooker.
Rogers recently recorded an album with Shawna Morrison, Van's daughter. This year, Rogers released the instrumental Slideways.
Rogers performs with openers Norton Buffalo and Richard Gilewitz at 8 p.m. Friday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. $12. (813) 977-6474.
Meat Loaf, anyone?

Meat Loaf
|
Meat Loaf's fans run the spectrum. The alternative kids love him for his role as Eddie in the cult flick The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The classic rockers adore Mr. Loaf -- as the New York Times calls him -- because he crooned the chestnuts Paradise By The Dashboard Light and You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth. (Let's not forget the weepy Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad.)
Loaf's shamelessly bombastic Bat Out of Hell in 1977 added operatic songs filled with drama and stories to the airwaves. Kind of like Springsteen, but far sillier. (Though both made a case for lust fueling the direction of a young man.)
Loaf's singing career is an off-again, on-again affair -- he scored another huge hit with I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) in 1993. And he's still acting. Did you get a load of him as the Spice Girls' bus driver in Spice World? Oy.
Meat Loaf performs at 8 p.m. Friday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater. A limited number of $55 tickets remain. (727) 791-7400.
