HOLIDAY -- A cat was killed and a mobile home severely damaged in a fire Thursday evening, said Pasco Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Mike Ciccarello.

A neighbor called 911 to report a fire at 4343 Resort Loop at 5 p.m. When firefighters arrived at 5:08 p.m., they found the back of the home engulfed in flames. They had the fire under control five minutes later.

Ciccarello said the couple renting the home have been out of town this week and that no one was inside during the fire. Ciccarello said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Deputies: Man threw knife at girlfriend

PORT RICHEY -- A 41-year-old Port Richey man was facing charges after throwing a knife at his girlfriend Wednesday night, Pasco sheriff's deputies said.

According to an arrest report, Richard Walsh of 7331 Sea Grape Drive kicked a cooking pan lid at his girlfriend on Christmas night, called her an obscene name, then threw a steak knife at her. The knife hit a bedside table and landed on the bed, where the woman was sitting, according to the report.

Walsh was facing charges of aggravated assault and simple battery. He was held Thursday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes, pending a bail hearing.
