Robber with mask, pistol sticks up gas station
By JAMIE JONES, Times Staff Writer
SPRING HILL -- A masked man robbed an Amoco gas station at U.S. 19 and Applegate Drive at about 7 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. Detectives are looking for the man who pointed a small handgun at a 20-year-old clerk. He wore a hooded blue sweat shirt and jeans, and a white bandana covered his face, authorities said. The man entered the store at 6:50 p.m. and said, "Give me the money," according to authorities. The clerk was shocked and did nothing until she saw a small gun in the man's left hand, authorities said. "Hurry up," he told her. She gave him $74 from the cash register. The man left and walked south toward a nearby Burger King restaurant, authorities said. Deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office canvassed the area but could not find the man. They interviewed Burger King employees, who thought a group of men in the store had been acting suspiciously. Deputies were trying to locate them on Friday. The Sheriff's Office took a copy of the store's surveillance tape, which clearly showed the man leaning over the counter, taking money and leaving the store. Authorities asked that anyone with information about the robbery or the group of men call the Sheriff's Office at 754-6830. -- Jamie Jones covers law enforcement and courts in Hernando County and can be reached at 754-6114.
