TAMPA -- Police have identified the man who was fatally shot by a store clerk during an attempted robbery as Otis Demetrius MaGee of Tampa.

Police said MaGee tried to rob Friendly Groceries, 10002 N 30th St., Thursday evening. As he held a gun to a clerk's head, another clerk, Royce Chang, drew a gun and shot MaGee once in the chest, police said. MaGee, 20, ran out of the store and got on a motor scooter he had parked near the door. He headed west on Linebaugh Avenue for about a block before collapsing.

MaGee of 4010 E Paris St. was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital.
