Road needs stop sign

Editor: Re: Man drives into home, is killed in fiery crash, Dec. 27 Times: For years, residents on Meredith Drive have asked the county to replace a stop sign that was removed a number of years ago between Spring Hill Drive and Brady Street. Our road has become a drag strip and, as new homes are built, these new residents soon become well aware of this problem the county created.

The county has informed us that this stop sign was not necessary on our street, a stop sign that used to break the momentum of speeding motorists who are constantly being yelled at by Meredith Drive homeowners. Usually our pleas fall on deaf ears because these vehicles are traveling too fast to even hear us.

Our prayers go out to the family of the young man who was killed at the end of our road Dec. 26. We hope this unfortunate incident will make the county take another look at the problem we have had on Meredith Drive and install one or two stop signs that may help prevent incidents like this.

We also need to consider the welfare of all the children who are now playing football, riding their bicycles, and just being kids in our area. Unfortunately, this is another tragedy waiting to happen if the county does not install a few stop signs (or at least one).

Earlier complaints were handled by the Sheriff's Office sending out a deputy to sit at one of the corners for a few days and write tickets. But after a couple days, people realized the deputies were no longer present, and the problem arose again.

Our deputies have many more important things to do than to try to regulate speeders, especially because this problem could be handled by the installation of a stop sign or two.

I hope this plea will not fall on deaf ears, as it does with motorists who zip by our homes daily.
-- John Bohn, Spring Hill
