ST. PETERSBURG -- The terra cotta house on Miramar Boulevard NE that has elicited neighborhood criticism has new design elements and landscaping.
Xeriscape plants have been installed, trompe l'oeil detailing added around windows and doors, and a pergola was built outside the garage.
Milic and Maja Milic bought the house in 1999 and had it torn down to its footprint. Work on the Italianate structure began in the summer of 2000, but neighbors complained that it was too slow and too sporadic.
They asked city officials for an investigation to determine whether building codes and design guidelines had been properly followed. They disliked the color.
Milic has not returned recent telephone calls, but in October he said he wanted to be a good neighbor and hoped to move into the house by Christmas.
