INVERNESS -- Citrus Memorial Hospital has instituted several programs to improve patient stays. In addition to its ongoing pastoral care program, during the summer the hospital established patient e-mailing through its Web site and, effective Jan. 1, offers the Patient Channel, a 24-hour patient education TV channel.

E-mails received by noon will be printed by volunteers and delivered to patients the same day in a sealed envelope. The service is available through the hospital's Web site, www.citrusmh.com. Senders need the patient's name, room and bed number.

The 24-hour patient channel offers programs developed with respected authorities. A range of programs which repeat frequently focus on the most common chronic diseases and conditions which include angina, allergies, asthma, cholesterol management, diabetes, depression, heart problems, various cancers and more. The information helps patients become more knowledgeable and active in their own care and progress.
