Girl, 18, arrested in purse-snatching
By CHRIS TISCH, Times Staff Writer
CLEARWATER -- A teen arrested last month on charges she robbed her 83-year-old father in his home has been charged in connection with a purse-snatching in the parking lot of a Clearwater Wal-Mart. Clearwater police arrested Diane B. Davidson, 18, on Nov. 8 on a charge of home invasion robbery. Police said Davidson and an acquaintance sneaked up on her elderly father, covered his head with a blanket and robbed him of his wallet and two checkbooks. Detectives suspected Davidson because although she lived with her father, she had been absent from their Clearwater home since the day of the robbery. When detectives later found her, she admitted to the robbery, arrest reports state. Her 16-year-old acquaintance also was arrested, police said. Davidson was released from the Pinellas County Jail the day after her arrest when she posted $10,000 bail. Police began investigating Davidson in connection with a robbery at the Wal-Mart, 23106 U.S. 19, that occurred Nov. 5, one day after Davidson's father was robbed. She was arrested Saturday in connection with that case. Police say Davidson was in a vehicle in the parking lot when she reached out and took the purse of a woman loading her car. Davidson had two accomplices with her -- one a 16-year-old boy -- who also have been taken into custody, according to arrest reports. Davidson also has been charged with multiple counts of dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawnbroker. Police say she pawned stolen goods, including three video games that she had stolen from her brother. Davidson admitted to these offenses, arrest reports state. She was being held Monday at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
