By Times staff writer Victim of robbery drives to police after being shotDADE CITY -- A man shot during a robbery drove himself to the police station Monday. According to authorities, Ernest Howard Brown, 31, of Brooksville was robbed at gunpoint and shot in the leg. Then he drove himself to the Dade City Police Department to report the crime. Pasco sheriff's spokesman Jon Powers said Brown was driving his gray 1997 Chrysler on 15th Street about 8:20 a.m. Monday. He stopped and picked up another man walking on the street and proceeded toward Oak Street. When he stopped at Oak, two men on the street pointed handguns at him. The man in the car with Brown got out, and the two armed men got in, Powers said. The men demanded money, and Brown refused at first. But then he turned over his wallet and some cash and was shot in the right knee during the altercation, Powers said. The three men ran away, and Brown drove to a pay phone to call 911. Sheriff's deputies responded within two minutes but found no one at the scene. About 8:30 a.m., Brown walked into the Dade City Police Department and told officers he had been shot. Powers said Brown was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. But hospital officials had no record of him Monday. No arrests were made Monday, but Powers said deputies had a couple of leads. Brown's car was impounded and will be searched for evidence, Powers said. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Detective Jennifer Christensen (352) 521-5119. 4-year-old girl injured in 2-van crash on U.S. 301DADE CITY -- A two-van accident on U.S. 301 held up traffic Monday afternoon while a helicopter took a 4-year-old girl to the hospital, authorities said. That van, driven by Donald Nivins of Knox, Pa., struck the passenger side of Oliver's van. Nivins and his wife, Dayna, were taken to East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills, where they were treated and released, Thompson said.
