  • HAMBEL, GRACE A., 86, of Inverness, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) in Woodlands Terrace of Hernando. Born in Kearney, N.J., she came here in 1977 from Downers Grove, Ill. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught for more than 33 years. She was a member of the Retired Educators Association and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. Survivors include her husband, Lester C.; three sons, Paul L., Aurora, Wis., David C. and Daniel R., both of Fort Lauderdale; a daughter, Rosemarie Mys, and a sister, Gertrude Hambel, both of Inverness; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.   • LEE, BERNARD HENRY "BARNY," 72, of Floral City, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Born in Welland, Ontario, he had been a winter resident here since 1981 from Hamilton, Ontario. He retired as an inspector for the Ford Motor Co. in Oakville, Ontario, with more 25 years of service. He was Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Betty J.; three sons, Frank, Bernie and Ed, all of Brantford, Ontario; five daughters, Dorothy Brown, Wainfleet, Ontario, Darlene Cossaboom, Intergoll, Ontario, Laurie Fawcett and Kristine Lee, both of Brantford, and Teresa Misale, Hamilton; a brother, Jim Lee, Colbourne, Ontario; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.   • RIFE, RAY LAWRENCE, 80, of Inverness, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at home. Born in Greenbottom, W.Va., he came here in 1972 from Huntington, W.Va. He was a supervisor for Neighborgall Construction Co. He developed and managed the Fort Cooper Mobile Home Community. He was a charter member of Lakeside Golf & Country Club and a member of the Inverness Elks Lodge 2522. Born in Frederick, Md., she worked at the National Bureau Standards, City Hall of Frederick and Fort Detrick in Maryland. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.   • HAYES, GENEVA O., 78, of Spring Hill, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Brooksville. Born in Evansville, Ind., she came here in 1982 from Oakland, N.J., and was a legal secretary. She was Roman Catholic.   • MANGANO, JOHN V., 80, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at home. Born in New York City, he came here 18 years ago from New Milford, N.J. He was a retired purchasing agent and a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209, Lions Club, American Legion and the St. Theresa Catholic Church.   • PAULIN, GERARD J., 79, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at home. Born in Westbrook, Maine. He worked in the Civilian Conservations Corps in Alfred, Maine. He worked in a shipyard in Hawaii in 1943 then enlisted in the Navy. He served on the USS Comfort, a hospital ship. He retired as training supervisor for the New York Life Insurance Co. in Maine with 35 years of service. He was a member of Life Underwriter Association and served as national committeeman and president of the Southern Maine Life Underwriters. He was an alderman in Westbrook City Government and served 10 years on the Public Safety Commission. He was a charter member Lifeline Program at the University of Southern Maine. He was a member of the Seven Hills Golf Club. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eloise (Day); two daughters, Louise Paulin, Windham, and Ann Beane, Augusta, Maine; two sisters, Emily Jensen, Windham, and Anita Leavitt, Orono, Maine; a brother, Joseph E.A., North Miami; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. He was a retired banking supervisor and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church of Spring Hill. He was a farmer, mechanic, heavy equipment operator and the owner/operator of Project Oil for nine years in the Spring Lake area. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Sportsman Handicap Club of Jacksonville. He was Protestant.   • CAREY, EDWARD L., 70, Tampa, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at home. He was born in Flint, Mich. He retired from General Motors after 30 years and was Methodist. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Precious Moments Club. He graduated in 1991 from Saint Leo College, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He received a master's degree in management from Troy State University in 1996.   • OLSEN, ALICE STALNAKER, 74, of Plant City, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) in Plant City. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she was a longtime resident of the Tampa area. She was a retired activities director for a nursing home and was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. She was also a member of the U.S.O. She was a drama teacher and the second generation graduate of Holy Names and Sacred Heart Academy. She came here in 1972 from her native Pontiac, Ill., and had lived in Pinellas Park for about 30 years. She was a retired owner and operator of a beauty salon and a member of Good Samaritan Church in Pinellas Park. Survivors include her husband, Leland M.; a son, Gene Ehnen, Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Dolores Jesse, Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.     • GRUNDSET, DR. KENNETH W., 84, of Largo, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg. He was born in Portland, Ore., and came here in 1959 from Brookfield, Ill. He was a dentist and practiced for 40 years in Seminole. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the American Dental Association.     • CRIDER, HAL JOEL, 72, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at home. Born in Wellston, Ohio, he came here in 1953 from Virginia. He was a limousine chauffeur in Miami and, in retirement, worked part time at Publix in Miami and especially enjoyed providing tours of the store to school children. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Teets, St. Petersburg, and Kimberly Crider, Nashua, N.H., and three sons, Christopher, St. Petersburg, Craig, Kihei, Hawaii, and Curtis, Miami; and seven grandchildren.     • FLYNN, NORA A., 72, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (Jan. 28, 2002) at home. She was born in Bel Air, Md., and was a government clerk.     • GOLDMAN, SAMUEL T. "TIM," 89, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Menorah Manor. Born in Boston, he came here in 1998 from Venice, Fla. He was a retired supervisor for the Boston Herald. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel in St. Petersburg and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the DAV.     • KITCH, GLORIA L., 76, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Colonial Care Center. Born in Mitchell, Neb., she came here in 1995 from Lafayette, Ind. She was a real estate agent and also worked at Dillard's, Burdines, and JCPenney, all at Tyrone Mall in St. Petersburg. She operated a beauty salon before coming to St. Petersburg.     • MARINELLI, MICHAEL JR., 56, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at home. He came here in 1973 from his native Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a retired grounds keeper for the city of St. Petersburg and was a Catholic. Survivors include a companion of 21 years, Janice Deluco, St. Petersburg; and a sister, Mary Marinelli, Palm Harbor.     • McFADDEN, IVAN M., 78, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at home. Born in Mount Vernon, Ind., he came here in 1973. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, serving as a command pilot in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. Locally, he was co-owner and president of Majac Graphics, retiring in 1982. He was an Episcopalian and a life member of the Honorable Order of Daedalians. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jacqueline; four daughters, Kimberly McFadden, Seminole, Tracy Osborne, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Victoria Huggins and Melanie Neumann, Redington Beach; and a brother, Robert, Hilton Head, S.C.; five granddaughters; and a grandson. She attended nursing school in Chicago and worked for various local doctors until the 1950s. She was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.     • MOORER, MOLLIE MAE, 87, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at the Laurels Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Dothan, Ala., she came here in 1962 from Birmingham, Ala. She was a member of Bethel Community Baptist Church, where she served with the Deaconess Board, the Missionary Board and the Usher Board. She also was a member of OES. He was a retired equipment operator for Speer Carbon. He was a member of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 1465 in Niagara Falls, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10094 in Largo and Knights of Columbus Council 4092 and Elks Lodge 2519 in Seminole.     • STETSON, WILLIAM NORTON, 90, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at the Laurels Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He came here in 1967 from his native Chicago. He was a retired accountant of 35 years in Chicago. Survivors include a son, Robert M. Sr., Mars Hill, N.C.; a sister, Mable Wuchetech, Chicago; a grandson, Robert M.     • REGISTER, JUSTIN C., 94, of Seminole, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg. Born in Kingston Springs, Tenn., he came here in 1972 from Nashville. He was an accountant for United Methodist Publishing Co. and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.
