BANKRUPTCY BOOM: Bankruptcy filings by American consumers and businesses hit a record high last year as the economy slid into recession. Filings were up 19 percent to 1.49-million, compared with 1.25-million in 2000. The previous record was 1.44-million in 1998, according to new data.
