CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Given how the Rays dumped him off the 40-man roster and back to the minor leagues last April, Bobby Smith didn't know what to think.

NCAA men's basketball tournament final: Maryland vs. Indiana
  • Daddy, what's a Hoosier?
No one really knows the origin of Hoosier, perhaps the most well-known state nickname. And it's unlikely anyone ever will discover the truth. But the theories are entertaining, though sometimes implausible. Here are some from a 1992 Indiana Alumni Magazine article:

Outdoors
Daily fishing report
It seems there are exceptions to every rule. Saturday, we experienced one. Generally, on the few days surrounding a full moon, anchoring and chumming can be most effective when kingfishing. Aided by faster tide, chumming can have far reaching effects. A 72-quart cooler full of fresh shad and a big enough crew to do it right still wasn't enough to get them going.
