ADAMS, CLARENCE A., 88, of Beverly Hills, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) in Hernando. Born inNew Bedford, Mass., he came here in 1989 from San Diego. He was a U.S. post office carrier and an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; a daughter, Carol Spencer, California; and a sister, Dorothea Stephenson, Miami. Fero Funeral Home with Crematory, Beverly Hills.
BEATTY, THOMAS, 65, of Inverness, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) in Inverness. Born in Newark, N.J. He was a 24-year veteran of the Army and the Connecticut National Guard. He retired as a detective from the Bloomfield (Conn.) Police Department with 21 years of service. He was an emergency medical technician for the Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hernando. He was a member of the Buick Club of America, Buick Riviera Club, Citrus Investment Club, Mended Hearts and a long time benefactor of Citrus United Basket. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lee; a son, Steven G., Seattle; a daughter, Larissa A. Gibbs, Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Rose Janowski, Toms River, N.J.; three brothers, Jack, Raleigh, N.C., Michael, Toms River, and Frank, Spencer, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren. KRAUS, DR. JOHN WALTER, 78, of Inverness, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at home. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he came here 14 years ago from Lakeland. He was a chemist for WR Grace, Bartow, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Teaching of the Saints. LEE, S. LARRY, 58, of Inglis, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He came here 17 years ago from his native Greensboro, N.C. He was a security consultant and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member and past treasurer of Springs Masonic Lodge 378 and Egypt Temple of Tampa. Survivors include his wife, Helen L. LITHGOW, EDWARD J., 76, of Hernando, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Kearney, N.J. He was a retired physical education teacher and coach for Walpole High School, Peterborough High School, Franklin-Pierce College and Hawthorne College, all of New Hampshire. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the New Hampshire Knights of Columbus, Citrus Hills Golf & Country Club and attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lorette; four sons, Thomas, Thornton, N.H., Timothy, Peterborough, N.H., Brian, Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Kevin, Temple, N.H.; a daughter, Maureen Lithgow-Smith, Hernando; two brothers, James, Oakhurst, N.J., and Jerry, Edison, N.J.; a sister, Ann Ustas, Palm Harbor; and eight grandchildren. MUTCHLER, HARRY E. JR., 88, of Largo, formerly of Lecanto, died Monday (April 29, 2002) at Sabal Palms Health Care Center, Largo. He was born in Shamokin, Pa., and came here in 2000 from Lecanto. He retired as a supervisor for a machine shop. He was an Evangelical Methodist and a 70-year member of the Odd Fellows. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Margaret; a son, Edward Joseph, Euless, Texas; three grandchildren, Terry, Jeffrey and Joseph Mutchler, all of Texas; and four great-grandchildren. RORIE, PAT HENRY, 77, of Homosassa, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River. Born in Clarksville, Tenn., he came here 13 years ago from Madison, Ind. He was a retired carpenter and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was involved nearly his entire life with the Boy Scouts. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Kent Volunteer Fire Department, a sheriff's department volunteer, volunteered as an umpire with Little League and was a member of New Life Christian Center of Crystal River. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn; a son, Glenn, Beverly Hills; two daughters, Becky Wright, Homosassa, and Margaret Ann Macy, Dallas; two sisters, Nellie Stanley, Lexington, Ind., and Polly Wade, Oscoda, Mich.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. SHANK, THOMAS J. "TOM," 75, of Inverness, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Born in Detroit, he came here four years ago from Clinton Township, Mich. He was a retired electrical engineer from the Robotron Corp., Southfield, Mich. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree from Lawrence Technological University in 1952. He was a member of S.M.E. Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Muriel "Sue" (Harlow); a son, James T., Boston; two daughters, Kathleen Bollman, Traverse City, Mich., and Susan Martin, Boyne City, Mich.; a stepson, Greg Youngblood, Clinton Township, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. UNGER, CONNIE J., 50, of Homosassa, died Thursday (May 2, 2002) at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. She came here 32 years ago from her native Rensselaer, Ind. She was an administrative assistant with the Crystal River Florida Power Plant with 12 years of service. She was a member and treasurer of Citrus County Road Runners and attended Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church of Crystal River. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., he came here six years ago from South Brunswick, N.J., and was a manager at Wendy's for five years. He was Roman Catholic. KRAMER, MARGARET LOUISE, 78, of Brooksville, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at Evergreen Woods Center in Spring Hill. Born in Stevens Point, Wis., she came here 15 years ago from Chicago. She was a retired owner/operator of a beauty salon, member Brookridge Helping Hands, Crafty Stitchers and its Golf Association. Survivors include her husband, John; two stepdaughters, Pauline Zierden, Brooksville, and Laura Kramer, Chicago; a stepson, Keith Kramer, Chicago; eight grandchildren; and a cousin. MARRS, BILLIE JOE, 70, of Weeki Wachee, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Hayti, Mo., he came here eight years ago from Frederick, Mich. He was a quality specialist and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was president of the Weeki Wachee Area Club, member of Weeki Wachee Crime Watch, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3736, Moose Lodge, American Legion, and volunteer for the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. He was Christian. Survivors include his wife, Hendrina; two sons, Bill and Tommy, and two daughters, Kathy Rickert and Lori Mast, all of Michigan; a brother, Richard, New Jersey; a sister, Dee Namore, Kentucky; and four grandchildren. ALBERTS, EVELYN McNIEL, 86, of Tampa, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) at Bon Secours-Maria Manor. Born in Farmington, W.Va., she moved to the Tampa area in 1953 from Fairmont, W.Va. She was an inventory control clerk at the Colony Shop, a member of Port Tampa United Methodist Church and the Tampa Porcelain Artist Association. Survivors include her daughter, Betty A. HOOVER, LEE WILSON, 96, of Plant City, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002). Born in Hickory, Miss., she moved to the Tampa area several years ago. He was a business development manager for G.T.E., a substitute teacher for the Hillsborough County Board of Education and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Prince of Peach Catholic Church, Sun City Center, and the Nativity Men's Club. He was an usher at Nativity Catholic Church for 29 years and was the former head of volunteers for emergency at Brandon Regional Hospital. He worked as a loan officer for Rutland Bank, St. Petersburg, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 127 of Clearwater and the Shrine in Missouri and was a past president of both the Kiwanis and the Computer Clubs of On Top of the World, Clearwater. He was a materials control manager for Sybron Chemical in Birmingham, N.J. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Indian Rocks Beach Civic Association. - HORNYAK, CHARLES, 89, of Largo, died Tuesday (April 30, 2002) at Wright's Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Largo. He was born in Franklin, N.J., and came here in 1969 from Orlando. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of master sergeant and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a volunteer for 18 years at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. - MURDOCH, GEORGE C., 37, of Largo, died Monday (April 29, 2002) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Miami and came here in 1966. He graduated from Clearwater High School and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from University of South Florida, Tampa. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and recipient of their Courage Award for 2001. He was an advocate for the National Institute of Health clinical trials. He was a member of the Army Reserves and served with the 1186th TUU during Desert Shield/Storm. He was president of the F.R.O.G.S.. He enjoyed fishing, boating, comedy and computers. Survivors include his wife, Jill; a son, Matthew, and a sister, Marie Murdoch, both of Clearwater; three brothers, Jim, Clearwater, Paul, Rochester, N.H., and John, Seattle. - DUNNING, ELDYN, 86, of Pinellas Park, died Saturday (April 27, 2002) at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute. Born in Hornell, N.Y., he lived here for 20 years. he was a retired sergeant for the Hornell Police Department. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.
