Corporate ads: Attack of the drones
Brace yourself for a new smorgasbord of area corporate advertising awash in pithy phrases and feel-good imagery. Wachovia Corp., the banking giant we still know in Florida under its old "First Union" name, this week kicked off its first ads as a merged company, starting with a pitch aimed at corporate clients. Related ads hit the Florida market in November.

WEEKLY JOBLESS CLAIMS DOWN: New claims for unemployment insurance slipped for the second straight week, the Labor Department reported. Claims dropped by a seasonally adjusted 12,000 to 410,000 -- the lowest level since the middle of March -- for the week ended May 25. The number of unemployed workers continuing to draw jobless benefits rose to 3.89-million for the week ended May 18, the highest level since Jan. 15, 1983.
Fuel tax credit may get added life
A tax break for synthetic fuel was supposed to end in a few years, but it appears other states want a piece of the pie.
Sykes will stay put in downtown Tampa
TAMPA -- Sykes Enterprises Inc., which had been looking for cheaper office space and considered moving out of downtown Tampa, will stay downtown after all.
