Bush approves $4.3-billion for bio-protection
WASHINGTON -- President Bush signed legislation Wednesday allocating $4.3-billion to protect Americans and their food and water from biological warfare.

Prisoner says he fired at U.S. plane
WASHINGTON -- A suspected al-Qaida cell leader in the custody of a foreign government has acknowledged firing a missile at a U.S. military plane in Saudi Arabia in recent months, a U.S. official told the Associated Press.

Moussaoui will not get security documents
WASHINGTON -- A federal judge has denied Zacarias Moussaoui access to sensitive security information about airports and planes even though his court-appointed lawyers can see it -- a ruling that indicates some of the defendant's potential difficulties in representing himself.

Air Force crash kills 3 in Afghanistan
A U.S. Air Force transport plane carrying 10 servicemen crashed on takeoff in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing three of those on board, defense officials said. Officials said there was no indication that hostile fire played a part in the crash.

Afghan delegates vent pent-up frustrations
KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghanistan's grand political assembly made no headway in selecting a new government Wednesday, but it offered the 1,600 delegates a chance to do something equally valuable after years of war and repression: express their opinions in public.

Powell: U.S. may endorse Palestinian state
WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration is debating whether to push for a provisional Palestinian state as an interim solution to break the deadlock in the Middle East peace process, Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday.
