FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- When Earl Barron made 1 of 2 free throws with 2:32 to play, it actually improved Memphis' free-throw percentage from the previous six minutes.
The Tigers made 3 of 9 during that time, and Arkansas led 64-61 lead after the 7-foot center's free throw.
Then, Memphis made its final seven from the line and scored the final eight of the game for a 72-67 victory Thursday, its first in Fayetteville in six tries. Arkansas failed to score after Michael Jones' 3-pointer with 1:39 remaining gave the Razorbacks a 67-64 lead.
Barron, a 77 percent free-throw shooter, gave the Tigers a 68-67 lead with 21.8 seconds remaining. John Grice and Duane Erwin made two free throws each after Arkansas missed 3-pointers.
"We had missed a few free throws and coach (John Calipari) really got onto us and said someone had to step up and make our free throws in order to win the game," said Barron, who finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Point guard Billy Richmond led Memphis with 16 points. The Tigers played without junior guard Antonio Burks, still hampered by surgery on a broken bone in his left foot, and Antonio Burks, who has a sore hamstring.
Jones, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, came off the bench to make 7 of 10 shots and tie a career high with 18 points.
S. CAROLINA 66, CITADEL 50: Carlos Powell tied his career high with 20 points and the host Gamecocks continued their longtime dominance against the Bulldogs.
AUBURN 90, N. TEXAS 65: Marco Killingsworth had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Marquis Daniels scored 17 as the host Tigers never trailed.
VANDY 70, CHARLESTON 53: Matt Freije and Corey Smith scored 17 each and the host Commodores used a 21-0 second-half run to snap a two-game losing streak.
UVA 87, WOFFORD 65: Travis Watson had 21 points and a career-high 20 rebounds to lead the host Cavaliers. It was the first time a Virginia player had at least 20 points and 20 rebounds since Ralph Sampson had 33 points and 21 rebounds against North Carolina State on Jan. 12, 1983.
UMASS 68, N.C. STATE 56: Anthony Anderson scored 25 and the host Minutemen the first 10 of the second half en route to their third straight win. Jeff Viggiano scored six and Anthony Anderson four in the run to lift Massachusetts to a 42-27 lead.
UC 81, CHATTANOOGA 51: Freshman point guard Chadd Moore, making his first start, keyed a 17-point run that ended the first half and boosted the host Bearcats. Cincinnati dominated the last 41/2 minutes of the first half, pulling ahead 41-25.
ECU 93, N.C.-PEMBROKE 47: Erroyl Bing scored 14 and Jonathan Moore added 13 for the host Pirates. The Division II Braves shot 5-of-23 in the first half as East Carolina rolled to a 47-13 lead.
KANSAS ST. 65, SAINT LOUIS 48: Pervis Pasco had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Gilson DeJesus added 14 points to lead the host Wildcats to their sixth straight win, their longest winning streak since 1998.
TULANE 80, GA. TECH 66: Nick Sinville had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the host Green Wave.
DePAUL 95, LOYOLA (CHICAGO) 74: Joe Tulley scored 21 in the second half to help the host Blue Demons to their eighth straight victory over the Ramblers.
FIU 57, CANISIUS 54: Guard Carlos Morban hit 10 of 13 shots, including 3 of 4 3-pointers, for 24 points for the host Golden Panthers.
FSU: Forward Al Thornton, a standout prep forward from Georgia who signed with the Seminoles last spring but did not qualify, has enrolled in school. Coach Leonard Hamilton said Thornton will not play this season.
CAL ST.-FULLERTON: Pape Sow, the team's second-leading scorer and top rebounder, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor petty theft for stealing a $17 knit cap from the campus bookstore. Sow was suspended indefinitely from the team Dec. 27.
W. CAROLINA: Guard Kevin Martin, the Southern Conference's leading scorer, will be out up to two weeks with a sprained left ankle.
