Officer killed in motorcycle accident
By TAMARA LUSH, Times Staff Writer
TAMPA -- Officer Kelly Reindollar loved motorcycles. She owned a 1999 Harley-Davidson and often rode around the area for fun, with a large pack of other Tampa police officers. About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Reindollar was driving home on Interstate 75 near the Fletcher Avenue exit when she drove on the road's outside shoulder to pass several vehicles, the Florida Highway Patrol said. She lost control of the bike, which overturned, troopers said. Reindollar, who was not wearing a helmet, was severely injured. She died nine hours later at Tampa General Hospital. "It shocked me," Officer Gary Felice said. "It shocked everyone." Reindollar, 31, was hired by the Tampa Police Department in 1998. Her father, James Esto, is a corporal with the department. She was a patrol officer assigned to the midnight shift at the department's District One office, responsible for a West Tampa neighborhood. She was assigned to light duty in recent months because of an injury. "She always had a smile on her face," Felice said. "I have never, ever seen her in a mean demeanor." Reindollar recently had gotten a puppy, friends said, and she showed photos of the dog around the office. She had many friends around the agency, officers said. Earlier Thursday, she and some other officers rode their motorcycles together. Funeral arrangements have not been made, police spokeswoman Katie Hughes said. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
