CLEARWATER -- A 71-year-old man escaped Saturday from a fire in his home just outside the city limits.

John Russell Snyder, who lived at 1320 Ridge Ave., was treated at Morton Plant Hospital for minor injuries, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

"No one was seriously injured," Pasha said. "The house was totaled."

A preliminary investigation suggested the fire might have been caused by an electrical problem. The Clearwater and Dunedin fire departments assisted in fighting the blaze.
