Two sets of human remains found
By BRADY DENNIS, Times Staff Writer
TAMPA -- Two sets of human remains were found this week in Hillsborough County, but officials say they don't think they are linked. About 10 a.m. Tuesday, sheriff's investigators, acting on a tip, found human remains in a field off 58th Street, north of Columbus Drive. They worked through the night recovering the remains and transporting them to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy. Later Tuesday, two children in Dover came across what appeared to be a a human skull and partial skeleton in an orange grove off Black Jack Road. Investigators were working Wednesday to recover those remains and transport them to the medical examiner's office as well. Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said the discoveries coming on the same day appeared to be a coincidence. "There's nothing leading us to believe they are connected whatsoever," Carter said. She said the case off Columbus "we know is a homicide," and the one in Dover appears to be a suicide. Carter said investigators have not identified either victim. The discoveries marked the third time in the past week human remains have been found in the county. On Saturday, a teenager found a human skeleton in a patch of woods in Seffner, just south of Interstate 4, in an area authorities said is a homeless camp. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
