SAN FRANCISCO -- Torrie Cox rushed up to Ken Dorsey in the locker room Saturday to make sure Miami's quarterback didn't get away before signing his shirt.

"National championship game this year and last year, you have to get Ken," said Cox, a Pittsburgh defensive back who grew up in Miami.

Dorsey threw for 192 yards in the East's 20-17 win in the East-West Shrine Classic.

West Virginia's Avon Cobourne ran for two scores and Donald Lee of Mississippi State caught four passes for 122 yards and the go-ahead score for the East.

It was a near-home game for Dorsey, a star at Miramonte High in nearby Orinda.

"I got to sign a few (autographs)," Dorsey said. "The best part is to give back to the community. This is right in my back yard."

California and Colorado each had a game-high four players. Cal defensive lineman Tully Banta-Cain was named defensive player of the game with 4 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 11/2 sacks.

Arizona's Jason Johnson hit Southern Cal's Sultan McCullough on a 76-yard screen for a touchdown 2:30 before halftime that put the West ahead 10-6. Lee's 5-yard score with 14:56 left put the East up 13-10 and Cobourne ran 5 yards for a score with 49 seconds left. USF: Quarterback Marquel Blackwell and linebacker Kawika Mitchell, both seniors, were named the offensive and defensive MVPs at the team banquet. Offensive lineman Chris Carothers was named rookie of the year and DeAndrew Rubin was named top special-teams player.

CACTUS BOWL: Gregg Albano of Bentley (Mass.) recovered a fumble in the end zone with 2:17 left to help the East beat the West 19-7 in the Division II all-star game Friday at Kingsville, Texas.

PRAIRIE VIEW: Former Houston Oilers defensive back C.L. Whittington was named coach.
