RECAP: The start of good things to come. The Buccaneers had a promising opening drive interrupted when a Brad Johnson pass intended for Keyshawn Johnson was intercepted by cornerback Rashad Holman. But San Francisco went three-and-out on its drive that ended with a sack of Jeff Garcia by Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp. The Bucs responded with a 74-yard march that culminated with a 2-yard Mike Alstott run with 6:41 remaining. On the play before, Alstott caught a 5-yard pass. Despite a 6-for-8, 56-yard passing performance from Garcia during its ensuing drive, San Francisco had to settle for a 24-yard field goal by Jeff Chandler with 22 seconds remaining to make it 7-3. Garcia completed six in a row during the scoring drive.
KEY PLAY: During the Bucs' scoring drive, Brad Johnson found Joe Jurevicius on third and 9 for a 13-yard gain that put the Bucs on their 40-yard line.
KEY PLAYER: Alstott rushed for 11 yards on four carries, including a touchdown, and had two catches for 22 yards.
UNSUNG HERO: Johnson went 5-for-12 for 67 yards and an interception but completed three passes on third down.
DID YOU NOTICE?: The Bucs were 4-for-4 on third-down attempts during their scoring drive and 5-of-6 overall. ...
