Pavarotti's companion gives birth

ROME -- Luciano Pavarotti's companion has given birth prematurely to a girl, but a male twin was born dead after a complicated pregnancy, a Bologna hospital said Tuesday.

Nicoletta Mantovani gave birth Monday by Caesarean section, said Dr. Luciano Bovicelli, director of the Gynecological and Obstetrical Clinic at Sant'Orsola Polyclinic.

Bovicelli said the infant was breathing on her own. He called her condition good considering she weighed only 3.8 pounds at birth. Mantovani, 33, also was doing well, Bovicelli said.

Judge orders Diana Ross tape released

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A judge on Tuesday ordered the release of a police videotape shot during Diana Ross' arrest on suspicion of drunken driving, but without audio of her comments.

The singer's attorneys and a city lawyer representing the Tucson Police Department agreed to conditions of the release. Her lawyers had objected previously to making the tape public.

The video was shot while police questioned Ross and administered a field sobriety test.

Ross was arrested Dec. 30 for investigation of driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol level above Arizona's legal limit of 0.08 and extreme DUI.

'Beverly Hillbillies' not concrete

LOS ANGELES -- Even as socialite Paris Hilton is telling late night talk show host Craig Kilborn that she will be taking part in a reality version of Green Acres for Fox, CBS is busy defending itself for even considering a reality take on Beverly Hillbillies, where a real Appalachian family would have their lives filmed as they moved into an affluent suburb.

Answering allegations that the network thinks the rural poor are fair game to poke fun of, CBS president Les Moonves insists that the heart of the idea is a good old-fashioned fish-out-of-water story.

The proposed reality show remains very much in the discussion stage. No family has been signed and there's no start date for production.

'Touched by an Angel' ends run

LOS ANGELES -- Even what is presumably one of God's favorite shows isn't safe from being canceled.

After nine seasons on the air, Touched by an Angel will retire its wings during May sweeps. The show's executive producer, Martha Williamson, who is already developing a new series for the network, says the finale will include some depiction of heaven, although the details haven't been hammered out yet.

The show stars Roma Downey and Della Reese as angels sent back to earth to let troubled souls know they aren't alone. John Dye was added to the cast in 1996 as the Angel of Death, and Valerie Bertinelli joined in 2001 as a new angel who needs to be shown the ropes.
