BELLEAIR SHORE -- Mayor John Robertson and Commissioner John Hayes Jr., the only candidates to qualify for the March 11 election, will return to office.

Robertson, 62, moved to Belleair Shore in 1997 from Pound Ridge, N.Y., where he worked as an attorney. He has served as mayor since 1998. He is married and has one son.

Key issues for Robertson are the county's plans for the Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge; connecting Belleair Bluffs with Belleair Shore; the expected arrival of reclaimed water; and Gulf Boulevard beautification. Robertson also said the city needs to rewrite its ordinances.

Hayes, 65, moved here from the Kansas City area in 1998 and has served a two-year term as commissioner. He has served as CEO of Southwestern Bell and then Westar Energy. He is married and has four children.

Prior to starting his first term in 2001, Hayes worked on the Citizens Involvement Committee helping to rewrite the city's charter. He named the causeway replacement project, reclaimed water and Gulf Boulevard beautification as significant issues for the coming year.
