Sharks no match for Bulls

RIVERVIEW -- For more than 20 minutes of the first half Tuesday, Riverview's defense, led by senior Cydney Schultz, held the relentless Bloomingdale offense without a goal. But with three goals in the final 12 minutes of the half, the Bulls quickly took control for a 5-1 district win.

Bloomingdale (7-2-3) took 12 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes, and in the 23rd minute Jaclyn Johnson headed a pass into the upper right corner of the net for the Bulls' first goal.

Bloomingdale dominated the midfield in the first half, but Riverview put up a fight in the second and slowed the Bulls' attack.

"Overall, we have created more offense in the past two games than we have all year," Bloomingdale coach Susan Peet said. "Our midfield really came together tonight and played a consistent game.

"With the 3-0 lead at the half, they let down a little in the second, but came back. Our defense was solid. They came together tonight."

Junior forward Emily Mills, who assisted on Luisa Metallo's first-half goal, helped the Bulls often by dropping back to midfield and passing into the mouth of the goal. Six minutes into the second, she scored on an unassisted run from 50 yards and gave Bloomingdale a 4-0 lead. "Everyone picked up the tempo and played a great game tonight," Mills said. "Lauryn Oser was really right-on in the midfield tonight, as was our defense. The whole team played a great game."

Ashley Quaid and Oser scored the other Bulls goals, while Meredith McKenna and Stephanie Slade made assists.

Marisa Sanchez scored the only goal for Riverview (4-3-2).
