TAMPA -- Wharton linebacker and running back Larry Edwards, who helped lead the Wildcats to the Class 5A state final, has orally commited to the University of North Carolina even though he plans to visit more schools.

Edwards, a Times All-Suncoast first-team selection at linebacker, visited Louisiana State and Nebraska before visiting Chapel Hill. He immediately took a liking to the Tar Heels.

"I liked how open and honest all the coaches and players were about everything," Edwards said. "They wanted me not only as a player but as a student-athlete. I felt at home."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder will visit Florida and South Florida this month.
