OTTAWA -- Senators majority owner Rod Bryden and a co-investor met a Tuesday deadline to submit an offer to buy the bankrupt team and its arena.
Bryden filed the offer, backed by an unidentified New York-based corporation, at league offices in Manhattan. Reports placed the value of the bid for the team and the Corel Centre between $80- and $100-million.
The Senators filed for bankruptcy last week. A decision on the bid is expected within 10 days.
"I think we shouldn't play games with this market," Bryden said. "The only reason for not making a bid now is if our view was that the lenders' expectation of value was out of line with what we thought the market could support in the sense of delivering hockey to it."
Should the bid be accepted, a period of about 30 days will be required for the co-investor to demonstrate ability to finance it.
RED WINGS: Steve Yzerman is on the road with the team for the first time since the Stanley Cup final at Carolina in June. He wanted to practice in and away from Detroit after having his right knee realigned Aug. 2.
SABRES: A day after the team filed for bankruptcy, a judge approved a $10-million line of credit it can use for operating expenses. Judge Michael J. Kaplan approved the credit, which acts as a revolving line, meaning the team will have revenue coming in, said Dan Brown, an attorney for Erie (N.Y.) County.
THRASHERS: As reported Monday, Bob Hartley was named coach. Colorado fired Hartley last month after a 10-8-9-4 start.
"At certain stages of your life, you need to challenge yourself," Hartley said. "I really think this organization offers me the challenge I need."
Atlanta fired Curt Fraser Dec. 26 and general manager Don Waddell took over on an interim basis. Atlanta went 4-5-1 under Waddell.
TORONTO -- Mats Sundin scored the go-ahead goal with 7:59 left as the Maple Leafs extended their home unbeaten streak to 12-0-1 with a 3-2 win over the Flames. Nik Antropov had a goal and an assist for Toronto.
Calgary led 2-1 before Robert Reichel tied it 8:35 into the third with a shot past goaltender Roman Turek. On the go-ahead goal, Antropov passed to Sundin, who eluded defenseman Toni Lydman and scored on a wrist shot.
Toronto's Shayne Corson returned after missing 17 games with a groin injury.
SABRES 1, WILD 0: Denis Hamel got his first point of the season with a third-period goal and rookie Ryan Miller recorded his first shutout for visiting Buffalo. Hamel, called up from AHL Rochester Dec. 26, sent a backhanded shot past Dwayne Roloson that hit the right crossbar before going in with 12:24 left. Miller, in his second stint this season, made 22 saves.
BLUES 4, COYOTES 1: Martin Rucinsky scored the winner short-handed 4:48 into the third for St. Louis, which snapped Phoenix's five-game home unbeaten streak. Al MacInnis and Alexander Khavanov scored empty-net goals by in the final 53 seconds.
CANUCKS 4, PREDATORS 3: Trevor Letowski banged in a loose puck with 5:15 left as host Vancouver erased a two-goal deficit. With Nashville up 3-1, Sami Salo scored in the second. Then Todd Bertuzzi tied it 28 seconds into the third.
