TAMPA -- A 45-year-old Tampa man was killed Monday evening when the car he was in slammed into a parked semitrailer truck north of Plant City, reports stated.
Troopers said Ovidio Cruz was a passenger in a 1992 Ford vehicle driven by 38-year-old Leo Hoffman of Brooksville.
The two were heading north on Paul Buchman Highway about 6:15 p.m. when the car drifted off the right shoulder, hitting an unoccupied, parked Mack truck.
Cruz, who was not wearing a seat belt, died. Hoffman was taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, apparently with minor injuries. Hospital officials declined to comment on his status.
Troopers said the accident was not alcohol-related.
