Haunting images
The late David Anderson is the subject of a retrospective, "Images and Reflections," opening at the Leepa Rattner Museum of Art on Sunday. Artist in Search of Imagery, 1989, above, is an example of his part-surreal and part-mystic paintings. They have a delicately haunted, gothic quality, like memories encased in layers of gossamer. The show is curated by his friend, collector Estelle Marsh. The museum is located on the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College, 600 Klosterman Road. (727) 712-5762.

You'd never know that the "golden age" of miniatures ended in the mid 1800s. Almost 400 artists creating in small scale will converge for the 28th International Miniature Art Show, opening at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo, on Sunday. They will come from 38 states and 14 countries, including, for the first time, Iran, where the art of miniatures has been practiced for centuries. The show continues through Feb. 2. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, with discounts for seniors and students.
