Three decades after its creation, Hyde Park was still a fashionable place for Tampa's prominent citizens to build a house.
Edwin Dart Lambright was among them. He had an ornate two-story Craftsman bungalow built at 828 S Willow Ave in 1918.
At that time, he was serving as Tampa's postmaster, but he had made his name in newspapering. He started working in 1893 for the Brunswick Times in his native Brunswick, Ga. In 1899, he was hired as city editor by the Tampa Morning Tribune.
After his six-year stint as postmaster (1917-1923), he returned to the Tribune as editorial director.
Lambright was active with the Democratic Party, a chief yeoman in the Georgia Naval Reserve during the Spanish-American War, a member of the Florida State Planning Board, trustee of the Tampa Public Library and president of the Tampa 116th Artillery Boxing Commission.
He died in 1959 at age 85. The Lambright House still survives as one of the most distinctive "airplane style" bungalows in Tampa.
