Man wanted in stabbing hits officer, police say

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 38-year-old man who witnesses said stabbed another man ran from New Port Richey police and clipped an officer's elbow with his car, arrest reports said.

Clyde R. Pickler Jr., 5029 Sunburst Lane, was facing charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and fleeing and eluding police.

According to his arrest report, Pickler came at another man with a knife Tuesday night while at his house on Sunburst Lane. The report said Pickler stabbed the man in the shoulder, then held it to his throat.

The man said he broke free and ran.

Police were called to the area and found Pickler at Sunburst and Oelsner Street driving away in a black Oldsmobile. Officer Derrick Thivener blocked Pickler's path and drew his gun.

According to Thivener, Pickler drove toward him, and Thivener had to jump out of the way. While getting out of the way, Pickler's car hit Thivener's elbow and caused it to bruise.

According to police, Pickler then hid his car and fled to his house, where he was arrested.

Pickler was being held Thursday night at the Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of $120,500 bail.
