ALIQUIPPA, Pa. -- Pittsburgh defensive lineman Tyre Young was charged with carrying a firearm and drug possession after he was shot outside a bar during a fight, police said Sunday.
The 19-year-old player was shot in the left shoulder at the bar's entrance early Saturday, Aliquippa Police Sgt. Donald Couch said.
Young was wounded during a fight with several men, and another man was shot in the finger, police said. Investigators did not know if the shootings were accidental or if more than one gun was involved. No weapons have been found.
Young also was charged with marijuana possession. Police are investigating and have not determined if others will be charged.
Young, a sophomore, played one game before missing the rest of last season with a broken left ankle. As a freshman, he returned a fumble for a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 34-19 victory over North Carolina State in the Tangerine Bowl in December 2001.
