New Port Richey approves additional campaign sign feeBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published January 22, 2003 NEW PORT RICHEY -- Running a campaign in New Port Richey now will cost more. The New Port Richey City Council gave final approval Tuesday night to an additional $25 fee for political hopefuls who want to put up campaign signs in the city. And candidates also will have to come up with a $100 refundable bond to put up the signs. The city currently requires politicians to post a $50 sign bond, which they get back if all their signs are taken down three days after the election. According to City Clerk Victoria McDonald, city elections aren't much of a problem. It's the general elections, when "we have signs from here to there for everyone running for everything," she wrote in a memo to City Manager Gerald Seeber. The ordinance passed 3-2, with council members Ginny Miller and Scott Chittum voting against it. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
