SLEEPLESS IN OMAHA: Jack Nicholson has confirmed a Sideshow item of a few weeks ago about his walking around his Omaha, Neb., rental house naked at night while filming About Schmidt.

Nicholson, who won a best actor Golden Globe for his performance, told a postshow news conference that he had just learned that his neighbors had been disconcerted by his appearance. But without meaning to insult the people of Omaha, he said in comments aired on E!, he just didn't think that anyone would be awake at 4 a.m. -- much less looking in his windows -- when he went downstairs to get a piece of pie to stay in character.

THE TABLES WITH PRODUCERS, HOWEVER, GOT HIS FULL ATTENTION: Edie Falco, a Globe TV actress winner for The Sopranos, remembers waiting tables in the 1980s at the same New York City restaurant as Michael Chiklis, a Globe TV actor winner for The Shield.

"He was always talking and knew everybody. He was very social, and his tables were always waiting for something," Falco said in an Associated Press report.

At the time, Chiklis was on the verge of getting his first major role. And his talking skills had left at least Falco dubious of his status in the audition process.

"I remember he told me was up for a part as John Belushi (in the 1989 movie Wired), and I said, "Yeah, so am I.' "

TRIVIA: The Globe winners for best drama or comedy/musical movie (they're separate categories) have won the Oscar for best picture for the past seven years, the Los Angeles Times reports. This year's winners were The Hours and Chicago. . . . Of the Globe's 11 TV categories, only one winner was from a show on a major broadcast network: Jennifer Aniston for Friends. The other 10 winners were from HBO, FX and USA. Tony Shalhoub's best comedy actor award for Monk gets the USA credit. The show started, and remains, on the cable network; ABC just borrows it to look creative.
