ST. PETERSBURG -- Pinellas County philanthropist Gus Stavros is joining the University of South Florida St. Petersburg governing board.

Stavros, chairman of PELAM Investments Inc., starts immediately.

"I am focusing my energy on helping USF St. Petersburg reach its potential in Pinellas County," said Stavros, who lives a few blocks from the downtown St. Petersburg campus. "I want to help USF St. Petersburg become an integral part of downtown St. Petersburg, and I want downtown St. Petersburg to be part of the campus."

Stavros has been involved in numerous professional, civic and educational organizations. He is a major USF fundraiser, was chairman of the USF Foundation and, until earlier this month, was a member of the USF board of trustees.
