HARBOUR ISLAND -- People seeking to rent an apartment with waterfront and downtown views won't have to look hard on Harbour Island. Construction on another high-rise apartment building is set to begin in February.

The vacant lot just west of the Harbour Island Boulevard bridge onto the tony isle was a natural fit for construction of an eight-story rental community, said officials with CKT Development Co., the project's developers.

"It's such a great site. Harbour Island is such a desirable place to live for a whole mix of people," said Cindy Taylor, president of CKT Development.

The company closed on the property in September and plans to complete construction on the 378-unit building in about 18 months, Taylor said.

Dubbed the ParkCrest at Harbour Island, the high-rise will feature one- to four-bedroom apartments, from about $900 a month to about $2,000, Taylor said.

Like the luxury condominium complexes the company manages in Innisbrook and Fort Myers, the building will have fitness and business centers for residents. Eventually, ParkCrest may convert to condos.

The apartments mark the latest addition planned for Harbour Island. Next door, crews are finishing the GrandView condos on Harbour Post Drive. Farther east, stores and restaurants are moving into the ground floor of the Post Harbour Place apartments.

One of them is That's Amore, an upscale Italian restaurant by Nicola Romano, the piano player and longtime associate of Donatello's Italian Restaurant. He plans to open in a few months.
