High profile: Mike Alstott

BY ANY OTHER NAME: In his seventh year out of Purdue, Mike Alstott remains one of the most recognizable Bucs, though there is some debate what position he plays. He is listed as having started only nine of 16 games this year, yet was named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth consecutive year as a fullback. The debate is caused, of course, because he also lines up at tailback.

PUTTING UP THE NUMBERS: Regardless where he lines up, Alstott has been among the most productive backs in team history, ranking second in career rushing yards (4,530) and first in career touchdowns (57) and rushing touchdowns (45). He led the team with seven touchdowns in 2002.

FOOD, FUN AND FUNDRAISING: Alstott has begun to make his mark on the community. In addition to numerous charity events and personal appearances, Alstott has been involved with several area restaurants -- most recently he teamed with former Buc Dave Moore to open the Island Way Grill in Clearwater. He established the Mike Alstott Football Camp in 1997.

MEET THE NEW BOSS: "It was difficult for both of us (him and Gruden) coming in," Alstott said of his role. "He had to revamp and have a whole new offense (and) bring players in. I had no idea what my role was going to be. I was concerned, but after some minicamps, his creative style really allowed me to participate and contribute to this offense."
