Bucs owners get backlash

© St. Petersburg Times, published January 25, 2003

Among the most galling aspects of Gary Shelton's column (Glazers have one concern: winning it all) is the hypocrisy. The Glazers are great because they spend money, he says. Yet the Times bemoans George Steinbrenner for spending to make the Yankees better. And how does Shelton explain his potshots of Redskins owner Dan Snyder? Wasn't that just an attempt to make his team better?

Also, I was a little more than "irked" at their disrespectful treatment of Tony Dungy and Marvin Lewis. Stadium wars? That's a nice euphemism for being "upset" about broken promises and extorting a new stadium out of a city.

Shelton's column was nothing more than brown-nosing a family whose team provided him a free trip to San Diego.

The Super Bowl will not change the way I feel about how Shaun King was dissed by the Glazers or how Dungy and Lewis were. The only thing decent about the Bucs is Derrick Brooks. Too bad he got stuck with an organization with no morals. Go Raiders!
