Pinellas sheriff's officials continued to investigate a Tuesday night crash involving a school bus and said the driver who hit the bus is expected to survive his injuries.

Officials said Eyasu S. Negewo, 21, of Holiday was driving on Edgewater Drive just south of Florida Avenue when he veered a Mazda Protege into the southbound lanes and struck an oncoming school bus. None of the 26 students on board the bus were injured in the 10 p.m. crash, nor was the bus driver. Negewo was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening, said Sgt. Greg Tita, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The bus was carrying Seminole High students returning from a junior varsity basketball game in Palm Harbor. The car was severely damaged, but the bus was relatively unscathed. Tita said Negewo told deputies he didn't know why he struck the bus. No charges were filed Wednesday.
