Jean Lebrun, Valrico
Lebrun, 17, scored 31 points in Bloomingdale's 68-67 double-overtime victory over district rival Gaither on Jan. 24. The win earned the Bulls top seed ranking for the upcoming district tournament. At the buzzer, Lebrun hit the winning shot from 10-feet out. The senior forward, who averages 23 points per game, is one of the top scorers in Hillsborough County.
Ed Maley, Brandon
Maley, 71, received his eighth-degree black belt in Judo during an open tournament in Las Vegas in October. It is the highest level recognized in the United States by the International Judo Federation. Maley has worked as a teacher and martial arts competitor for 52 years, and was inducted into the United States Judo Hall of Fame in 1980. He has taught Judo for more than 40 years, and was honored Jan. 29 by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners for his contribution to the community.
Nick Miles, Valrico
Miles, 17, a wrestler with the Bloomingdale Bulls, surpassed the elusive 100 high-school victories mark in a tournament at Lakeland.
