COUNTRY AT THE SPRINGS: Country singer T.G. Sheppard (Last Cheaters Waltz, I Loved 'Em Every One, Devil in the Bottle) will perform at noon Saturday at Weeki Wachee Springs, U.S. 19 and State Road 50, Weeki Wachee. The opening act will be the Zoots. The admission price of $12.95 for adults, $11 for age 55 and older, and $9.95 for ages 3 to 10 includes the concert. SPEAKING OF THE ENDANGERED: There will be a talk on American crocodiles at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chinsegut Nature Center, north of Brooksville. LIFE ON THE WATER: The work of Spring Hill Art League artist of the month Shirley Houghton will be on display through February during business hours at the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, 10005 Cortez Blvd. in Spring Hill. Houghton is an oil painter who primarily paints seascapes, river scenes, fishing boats and still lifes. The exhibit is free. For information, call 596-4000.

WALK (OR RUN) WITH NATURE: The seventh annual Chinsegut Run and Fun Walk will be Feb. 15 at Chinsegut Nature Center north of Brooksville. Take U.S. 41 north of Brooksville 7 miles, then turn left on County Road 476 and go 1 mile. The nature center is on the left. HMS PINAFORE: The Community Performing Arts Guild will present Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore at 3 and 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. FORMER MERMAIDS: The Former Mermaids of Weeki Wachee will perform Feb. 15 and 16 at Weeki Wachee Springs, 6131 Commercial Way. The Former Mermaids is an all-volunteer group of women ages 46 to 71 who once performed at the attraction. Members include a sports trainer, a respiratory therapist, a great-grandmother and the owner of a swimwear boutique. They perform the traditional mermaid show that has been at the attraction for more than 50 years. Call 596-2062.

CELEBRATING THE PAST: The May-Stringer Heritage Museum will celebrate Hernando County's 159th birthday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the museum, 601 Museum Court, Brooksville. CURTAIN CALLS

The Hernando County Fine Arts Council is accepting applications from artists and crafters for the 19th annual Hernando County Art, Craft and Music Festival on May 24 and 25 at Tom Varn Park in Brooksville. Only artists displaying their own original work may participate in the juried show. More than $5,000 in cash awards will be given out. The deadline for entries is May 5
