Series of meetings will focus on new school choice planBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published January 31, 2003 The Hillsborough County School District will host a series of town hall meetings in February and March to bring parents up to speed on the controlled school choice plan to be implemented in 2004. The purpose of the meetings is to help parents and community members understand the choice plan and the options it affords parents. Speakers will provide information about the plan and conduct question and answer sessions. A team of three to five school and district staff members will respond to audience questions related to: The plan's general guidelines Region and zone configurations and descriptions The process and timeline for making school selections The availability of district-provided transportation Magnet schools, attractor programs and academies Special assignment and majority-to-minority processes Whole School Effectiveness and quality of education issues. All meetings are scheduled from 6-8 p.m. or until all questions have been addressed.
