Seminole rebounds to hold off Packers

LARGO -- Coach Dave Swanson witnessed a first for his 2002-03 Seminole team Friday: how it performed after a loss.

Watching Jen Hansen take over a game, however, he has seen many times. But it never gets old.

The senior scored 34 points, including four free throws during the final 23 seconds, to help the Warhawks complete a come-from-behind 68-63 win over Largo.

Two nights earlier, Hansen scored nine in Seminole's first loss, 64-42 at Boca Ciega. The Warhawks faced early deficits Friday as they did against Bogie. Only this time, they responded.

Down seven at the start of the second quarter, Hansen scored 15 in less than six minutes to help Seminole (23-1, 5-0 PCAC North) get within one before the break. Coming out of the break, the Warhawks found a rhythm, going on a 12-1 run to take the lead for good.

Employing a bigger lineup to counter Largo's strong rebounding, Seminole kept the Packers off the offensive glass. Offensively, Hansen again was a catalyst, driving for scoring opportunities or dishing to teammates.

"She had an unbelievable game," Swanson said. "She put the team on her shoulders."

Largo (19-5, 5-2) fought back behind a barrage of 3-pointers. Tashyra Feazell had four of the team's seven, including two during the final quarter.

With just more than a minute left, Alexis Henry hit a layup on a break to get Largo within one. The Packers never had the ball with a chance to take the lead, however, as Hansen was fouled twice down the stretch.

With 23 seconds left, she hit two to put Seminole up 66-63. Then after Feazell missed a 3-pointer, the Packers fouled Hansen again. She didn't flinch in hitting two more to seal the victory.

"I wanted a foul on someone else," Largo coach Leonard Williams said. "Hansen's a real good shooter, a real good ballplayer. We already knew that."
