Dade City publisher returningBy CHASE SQUIRES, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 4, 2003 DADE CITY -- Former Pasco News publisher J.W. Owens is returning this week to a familiar job in a familiar town. Owens, 51, led the Dade City weekly newspaper from 1995 to 2000. He was in charge of the paper when popular editor Carlene Ellberg died in 1999 from an acute bacterial infection. He left to take the reins at a group of weeklies in the Okeechobee area in 2000 but said he is eager to return to a city he enjoys. "It's a beautiful community," he said Monday. "The people are wonderful." Owens said he'll be back at the head of the Sunpress Inc. publication in Dade City on Thursday. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
