CLEARWATER -- Deep into penalty kicks, down 2-0 and with a freshman in goal, Berkeley Prep didn't seem on the verge of defeating Clearwater Central Catholic on Tuesday.

But after two straight Bucs goals and a stop by keeper Andrew McAdams, the stage was set. And sophomore forward Scott Strickland delivered, scoring on the last kick to hand Berkeley Prep a 3-2 victory against CCC.

Berkeley Prep advanced to face Tampa Prep, a 1-0 winner against Tampa Catholic, in the final at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at CCC.

The penalty-kick victory for Berkeley Prep (8-11-4) came after the teams tied 1-1 in regulation and went scoreless in two overtimes.

The tournament's fourth seed, the Bucs overcame a late push by the top-seeded Marauders (10-11-6), who beat them twice this season.

"I told the team all week, the mental part of this game would get us through," Berkeley Prep coach Dave Zimmerman said. "We struggled in the second half and weren't playing our game, but McAdams played tremendous.

"He has stopped penalty kicks all year for us." Berkeley Prep controlled the game early, taking a 1-0 lead when Tyler Davis scored from 10 yards off of a Strickland assist. The Bucs outshot the Marauders 6-2 in the first half and seemed to win every ball.

But just when it seemed the Bucs had the game in hand, CCC struck back.

A Joey Ijjas header off a corner kick tied it with 10:15 left. But any CCC momentum evaporated as regulation and two overtime periods expired without either team mounting a threat.

In the opening game, Brock Johnson's first-half score gave Tampa Prep (13-2-5) all the offense it needed against Tampa Catholic (8-4).
