Colorado's winning streak at 6 after beating Boston

BOSTON -- Greg de Vries scored with 42.3 seconds left in overtime and Patrick Roy stopped 28 shots as the Avalanche extended their recent dominance of the Bruins with a 3-2 victory Tuesday night.

The Bruins forced overtime when Mike Knuble scored with 3:21 left in the third period on a pass from Glen Murray.

Colorado pushed its winning streak to six, matching its longest of the season. The Avalanche are 6-1-1 in their past eight games against Boston.

Scott Parker's first goal of the season 2:31 into the game gave Colorado a 1-0 lead. Parker, who had missed the past 13 games with a broken left foot, beat goaltender Steve Shields with a one-timer from the slot.

The Avalanche took a 2-0 lead late in the first when Peter Forsberg's wrist shot from the left circle trickled off Shields' pads and into the net. It was Forsberg's 17th of the season.

DEVILS 4, SABRES 1: Joe Nieuwendyk scored twice and Patrik Elias had a goal and an assist as New Jersey won its eighth straight at home. Defenseman Tommy Albelin added his first goal and Corey Schwab made 19 saves for the Devils. Buffalo defensemen Alexei Zhitnik and Dmitri Kalinin turned the puck over in their own end to hand New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Zhitnik's blind backhand pass around the side boards was intercepted by Jiri Bicik. His shot hit off a Sabres player and Scott Gomez before ending up in front, where Elias backhanded it past goaltender Ryan Miller 1:55 after the opening faceoff. Kalinin's giveaway set up a one-on-one chance for Nieuwendyk. After his first shot bounced off Miller's glove, the veteran center stuffed the rebound into the corner of the net at 6:04 of the second.

DUCKS 3, FLAMES 2: Sandis Ozolinsh, making his Anaheim debut, scored the go-ahead goal at 10:19 of the third to lift the visiting Mighty Ducks. Ozolinsh, traded by Florida in a four-player deal Thursday, joined the offensive rush and took a drop pass from Adam Oates. The All-Star defenseman's shot from the slot trickled through goaltender Roman Turek's pads and just over the goal line. It initially appeared that Calgary's Chris Drury cleared the puck, and play continued. But at the next stoppage, a video replay confirmed the puck slid over the line.

FLYERS 2, ISLANDERS 1: Mark Recchi scored a rare power-play goal for visiting Philadelphia with 9:56 left. Jim Vandermeer took a shot from the right point that Rick DiPietro stopped, but the puck got behind the Islanders goalie, who had come out above the crease. Recchi swept in and easily steered the rebound into the wide-open right side for his 15th goal and fifth on the power play. The Islanders nearly took the lead on the previous rush. Mark Parrish came in alone on goalie Roman Cechmanek but had his drive stopped. The rebound popped up in the air and was headed into the net behind Cechmanek, but Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins swatted it away.

CANUCKS 3, PENGUINS 2: Henrik Sedin and Matt Cooke scored on successive first-period shots for Vancouver. Mario Lemieux, the NHL scoring leader, missed all but 3:53 of the Penguins' past 11 games with a groin injury. He assisted on Alexei Kovalev's second-period goal while playing his first full game since Jan.4. Kovalev scored twice for Pittsburgh, which has won one of its past seven games. Mats Lindgren also scored for Vancouver, which won consecutive games at Mellon Arena after going 12 seasons without a win in Pittsburgh.

PREDATORS 5, RED WINGS 5: Denis Arkhipov's goal with 3:12 left in regulation gave visiting Nashville Predators the tie. Kimmo Timonen scored twice, and Mark Eaton and David Legwand had the other goals for the Predators. Henrik Zetterberg, Kris Draper, Brendan Shanahan, Luc Robitaille and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings. Nashville rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie it, finally pulling even when Arkhipov put a rebound past Curtis Joseph.

THRASHERS 4, CANADIENS 3: Marc Savard scored his second with 1:36 left in the third for visiting Atlanta. With Mike Ribeiro in the penalty box for hooking, Savard made a centering pass that went in off Canadiens defenseman Stephane Quintal's left skate at 18:24. It was his ninth goal of the season. Brad Tapper and Jeff Cowan also scored for the Thrashers, who improved to 6-2-1-0 under coach Bob Hartley.

AVALANCHE: Forward Dan Hinote injured his head and leg in a car accident in Boston and is expected to miss at least two games. He was treated at a hospital and flew to Denver on Monday, the team said.

COYOTES: Defenseman Ossi Vaananen will miss 4-6 weeks with a knee injury after being hit by a car. Vaananen was struck Saturday outside Office Depot Center in Sunrise. He had played in the YoungStars game at the NHL All-Star weekend. Vaananen was examined at a Miami-area hospital, returned to Phoenix on Sunday and had an MRI Monday, the team said. The MRI disclosed a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

ISLANDERS: Defenseman Kenny Jonsson sustained a head injury on the game's first shift. Jonsson, who has had several concussions in his career, was hit along the side boards by the Flyers' Jeremy Roenick. He tried to return later in the period, but only skated for a few seconds. Islanders doctor Elliot Pellman said Jonsson did not receive another concussion, instead calling it a post-traumatic migraine.

SABRES: Billionaire B. Thomas Golisano had more discussions with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman about purchasing the bankrupt team.

EX-PLAYER TREATED: Former NHL tough guy Bob Probert is being treated for substance abuse, the league said. Probert played 17 seasons, the last eight with the Blackhawks. He also played for the Red Wings.
