Prominent prosecutor suspendedBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 6, 2003 TAMPA -- Curt Allen, one of Hillsborough's most aggressive and high-profile prosecutors, has been suspended amid allegations of improper conduct. Allen, 36, was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday, two days after State Attorney Mark Ober received a complaint about him. State attorney spokeswoman Pam Bondi said her office forwarded the complaint to proper law enforcement authorities, but she would not say who was investigating. Nor would she provide details about the complaint. Allen could not be reached for comment. He will be on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Over the last year, Allen has probably been the office's most visible trial attorney. Last June, he won a conviction against Bernice Bowen, the girlfriend of cop killer Hank Earl Carr. In November he successfully prosecuted Randy Puryear, the dentist who gunned down a Countryway man. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
