Rio, a legend among organists, will play the accompaniment for one of Keaton's great films, The General (1927), on the Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ. In the film, set during the Civil War, the Yankees steal train engineer Keaton's beloved engine, the General. He takes off after them in another train. What follows is a breathtaking Civil War chase with amazing camera work and stunts, all performed by Keaton. He also directed.
Rio, who started playing theater organ for silent films in the 1920s, has done occasional performances at the Tampa Theatre since she moved to Sun City Center in 1993.
The show begins at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, students and military. The Tampa Theatre is at 711 Franklin St. (813) 274-8982 or www.tampatheatre.org.
