Chandler Powell, Seffner

Powell, 6, has something few skateboarders his age can claim: corporate sponsors. A kindergartener at Cimino Elementary, Powell's skateboard skills performing the acid drop, axel stall and other tricks against much older opponents attracted Airwalk Shoes, Powell Skateboards (no relationship), and the Cove Skate and Surf Shop in Brandon. He is currently training for a competition in March in Orlando.

Shauna DeZutter, Valrico

DeZutter, 11, successfully completed the requirements to move up to level 9 for USA Gymnastics competition for the 2003 season. To move up from level 8, DeZutter scored 34.8 points in the Lightning City Invitational Jan. 11 in Tampa. The home schooled fifth-grader balances gymnastics and maintains straight A's.

Betty Huntington, Ruskin

Huntington, 71, scored a hole-in-one Jan. 7 at the Woodlands Golf Course in Palmetto. An avid golfer, she aced the eighth hole using a number-9 iron for a 97-yard shot. Chet Dufrance and her husband Howard witnessed the feat. The Huntingtons winter in Ruskin and live in New York the rest of the year. They play at Woodlands once a week; this is the first ace by either.Snapshots honors achievements in sports and recreation by local residents. It can be any sport, from Little League to kayaking, and by people of any age, from 5 to 105. Send nominations to brandon@sptimes.com.
