DanceSwingDance America will do a show that celebrates swing dance, its music and its social context from its roots in the 1920s through today at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St. The show features dance solos, duets, small group and full company numbers. The music runs the gamut from early jazz to blues to rock and roll, rhythm and blues. The dancers present vignettes that tell the story of swing. The program opens with a high-energy, contemporary number and the music of the most recent swing dance craze. From there it goes on to showcase the roots of swing, the rock and roll influence and regional styles. Audience participation is encouraged. For the past year, the four female artists, who are friends, have created mixed-media artwork based on the stories, myths and legends from the book Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. VOICE LESSONS: Learn the techniques of great singing with a private voice lesson. One-hour, private lessons will help develop skills in breath control, diction and musical interpretation. The choreographer of the Cirque du Soleil will teach a master dance course and oversee a performance by bay area children March 15-25 at BB's Dance Factory in Clearwater.
